Gordon Lodge sits on a height of land overlooking the
Nottawasaga River Valley to the north and a large
open area to the south and east. Nighthawk Theatre – a natural amphitheater/ group campfire site is steps away yet concealed by the undulations of the terrain. To the west is the area known as the Old Pines where tent campers have camped for many decades. The lodge is a large two storey facility, set into a height of land such that the lower/main level of the building – opening to the south – has a covered deck with a BBQ set up. There is both a flagpole and a smaller campfire circle and the clearing on the North side is suitable for group camping.
The doors open upon a large main room with a stone fireplace which is normally set up for dining or crafts. There is a complete kitchen with domestic refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee maker and large Garland commercial propane stove with 6 burners, 2 ovens and a grill. Off of the main room are 2 washrooms one containing 2 toilet stalls with 3 sinks and the other one toilet and sink. Running hot and cold water comes from a well that is treated and monitored regularly.
The upper level sleeping accommodation is in 48 modern metal bunk beds. The main room accommodates 24, with 3 other rooms that accommodate 12, 4 and 4. There is a bathroom with a single toilet and sink as well as double sinks outside of the bathroom itself. Heat comes from electric heaters.
There was a significant plumbing flood in the building in January 2014 resulting in a major reconstruction of Gordon’s interior – ceilings and walls are mostly brand new and curtains now decorate the windows of all bedrooms.
