Goodyear Memorial Scout Camp

Birch Cabin

Birch Cabin, Goodyear Memorial Scout Camp

Birch Cabin

Situated in a sheltered area of the lower, original portion of Goodyear, Birch is a favourite destination for groups wishing some seclusion or perhaps just protection from the extremes of the weather – whatever the season.  It has its own flag pole, campfire circle and play areas immediately outside.  The surrounding cedar trees are great for groups that have both tent and building needs.  Balsam and Douglas Fir Adirondacks are also close at hand.  In the winter time there is excellent tobogganing available just outside the door.

Inside there is a main room, kitchen and 4 bedrooms that each accommodate 6 in bunk beds and an additional anteroom that accommodates 2 more – a total of 26 bunks.  The kitchen has a domestic refrigerator, a microwave, domestic stove and a sink with active drain.  Water is brought in by the Warden.  Heating is by electric baseboard heaters.

Interior redecorating has been a project of the GMSC Camp committee in the early part of 2014.  Interior painting is almost complete and plans are in place to paint the exterior as soon as the weather will allow.  The exterior sanitation facilities (kybo) will also be replaced in the spring of 2014.
